March 18th 1996


A miserable day. Skies were blue, wind was perfect. Andy Webb and Jerome Flegeau did their 1st static line jump. Simon Perry jumped again. Disaster struck! Jerome landed as told specifically not to and ended up with a dislocated shoulder and a broken leg. He is expected to be in a wheelchair for about 5-6 months. Lesson learnt: Keep your feet & knees together. Simon Perry, as an example to the club decided to become the 1st person ever to land in the power lines. Lessons learnt: Don't always rely on the instructor to tell you when you are in danger, they might be looking at someone's broken leg. (photos)




April 5th 1996

Andrew Webb and Simon Perry created the Union College Skydiving Club official hitch hiking sign (currently the club's only possession.) We then used it to get to the drop zone and back. Simon packed his parachute for the next day and everyone placed bets on its probability of openning. No bugger jumped.




April 6th 1996

Simon's parachute openned perfectly. Simon, Andy and a recent addition to the club, Claire Scanlon(AKA James) used the official hitch hiking sign to get to the DZ. Claire had a great tandem jump, Andy did his 2nd Static line jump with perfect stability (but a bit of a harsh landing) and Simon executed a flawless 1st freefall and landed like a feather on a windless day. April 8th 1996

Although no one went to the DZ today it was an very important day for the Union College Skydiving Club. Today we convinced the Social Comittee to have a demo skydive as part of the Springfest activites. The skydive will take place on the sunday of springfest and is currently scheduled for five PM. Stay tunned for more info.

April 9th 1996

Simon went down to the DZ today I (Andy) had to work.

Sunday April 28th 1996

Loads of chaps and chappesses went down to the DZ. Other than the usual two were Jason Temple, Savita Rathmore, Flo whatsaname, Becca Wright, Sarah Olson and the skydiving clubs most attractive member, Alex Beuchert.

Andy and Simon jumped first thing in the morning while there was little wind. Andy did his first static line PRCP jump, and Simon did a 10 second freefall.

Sarah and Becca decided at about midday that there was something more important than skydiving, like staying on the ground or something and went home.

Savita and Flo both did their first skydive, both Tandem jumps. Later in the morning the wind picked up and unfortuneatly neither Jason or Alex were able to skydive. Photos of the day will be on the web soon.

Sunday May 5th 1996

Simon went down to the DZ on the Saturday night and slept over to jump in the morning. First jump was a 10 second freefall (which actually turned out to be about 15 seconds) The next two jumps were both 15 second freefall from 6,500 ft, pulling at 4,300-4,500ft with 360 degree turns. Why did no-one else come down? It was the perfect day.

Tuesday May 7th 1996

Simon did his first 30 second freefall. No one else came down.

Tuesday May 14th 1996

Simon did his 2nd 30 second freefall, then a 60 second freefall fun jump from 12,500ft.

Wednesday May 15th 1996

Andrew Hummel, Andy Webb and Simon Perry went down to jump. Andy Hummel did his 1st Static Line, Andy Webb did his 2nd Practice rip cord pull - his 4th jump and Simon did a 45 second freefall (2-way) with Bucket.
